CraigieBoy!
Talking about pre season, It says we are spending a fortune on the pitch and on a new stand? Anyone heard about the stand before? I think if we loose the money from the TV deals it could be devastating, not only us would feel it right enough, but McGhee states he will have to sell the first team and play the youths. (A bit of topic, but i think he should be playing a good few of the youths until the end of the season) He mentions that last week we tried to sign a first div player (doesnt give a name) and a Championship team made a bid and we have lost out. Does anyone know who this is? I have been trying to post the link from the Daily Express website, but i'm sitting at work and it's no letting me into their site, maybe someone else could? Yabba's Turd
We need to spend a lot of money on the Main stand
numpty
It says we are spending a fortune on the pitch and on a new stand? Anyone heard about the stand before? Don't we have to spend a lot of money on the main stand every year, just to keep it open? Probably talking about that...
Well_Jaggy
Rip it down and build a new one. must be cheaper in the long run....
GregyScotland
Yep, ive heard about the new stand before, the club have been talking about it for a while, its either that or spend fortunes on renovating it to bring the main stand uptoo scratch, which would involve fireproofing it also. SCDave
Isn't the Main Stand a protected building though?
Gaag
I don't think the main stand is a listed building mate? And if it was, it's only bound to be a low class. So they could still completely re-develop the stand but maintain the frontage. As far as I know though, the only listed buildings in scottish football is the main stand frontage at Ibrox

Hopefully a new main stand would be pretty similar in design to thed davie cooper stand, then at least half the ground would match .

The facade is red facing brick of around 80's/early 90's! As for our main stand, cant see it being listed! Highbury was listed, and was one of the reasons they had to move to their new stad. Suprawell
Hello, Mark is probably refering to the fireproofing on the main stand which is going to cost a small fortune. We could use the money we earned getting into the top six and possibly Europe....oh hang on a minute... Well Well Suprawell
El Grew
Don't know about a new stand but I had heard a couple of months back that the club might be having to spend around £500K on 'upgrading' the current main stand. Not exactly sure why this was but it may have been a safety issue.

Just read up on it, turns out celtics main stand is listed however the facade isnt. As for our main stand, wouldnt it be cheaper in the long run to rip it down? Surley they would have to do something about the wooden flooring as well as the fireproofing, then all the costs of maintaining it in the long run... A new stand would be a better option, as they would be able to include things like a sports bar (like what killie have done), office space that can be rented out etc etc, which would boost the income for the club
Dodge
Fireproofing isn't some new thing that we've to do to the Main Stand - we've been undertaking fire-proofing on parts of the main stand for the last few years and I'm sure we'll be doing it for a long time to come. Guest 'Flow
Away from the POD Stand, managed a good wee chat with the manager this afternoon where he talked quite a bit about Europe and the Fair Play League, the season, the bottom six, Scoltand B and new signings/contracts! Bit of an epic... http://www.motherwellfc.co.uk/index.php?op...&Itemid=132 'Flow
Gaag
that's a good interview and quite frank of Mcghee. Would be great if we could keep a hold of Klimpl, but I keep thinking him talking about championship sides etc. coming in is only going to bring him to teams attention?!? p.s 'Flow, can you enlighten us about the stand? I presume it's just lots of maintenance and repair work being done over the summer?
Guest 'Flow
Gaag, The club has committed to essential fire-prevention painting of the Phil O'Donnell Stand (due to its wooden construction) for the last few years but to comply with the safety certificate required to have the stand open and useable, it has to be undertaken and completed before the start of next season. The cost of which, frustratingly, runs into a considerable six-figure sum. 'Flow
Rickoza
Would it be cheaper if you got volunteers to paint the stuff on, 'Flow? If you can, sure they'd be plenty of offers!
Guest 'Flow
I think we could Ricky if it were something simple like the East Stand wall but it requires a company who specialise in this sort of thing and they will be in most of the summer, scaffolding and all, to undertake the necessary work. There's no way it can be put off any more so its a case of grin and bear it now I am afraid! 'Flow
Wellfan1984
Knock the monstrosity doon! Six figure sum out of the footballing side for the of wood... It's an absolute disgrace this day and age, we're still spending money every season on those kinds of things...
Richie
Would it be cheaper if you got volunteers to paint the stuff on, 'Flow? If you can, sure they'd be plenty of offers! Thats a good idea but could be a legislative nightmare for the club in terms of insurance etc. If a volunteer carrying out the painting became injured as a result of it the club could possibly face action (if not by the person, then by the HSE)... Unless disclaimers etc were signed. Sorry too far, had my risk hat on there In terms of ripping the main stand down, that would probably be given a veto by neighbouring residents. Kat
It sounds as if it would be alot cheaper to just rip it down and build a new one. Doe's the club not own the houses next to the POD stand now???? Be nice to see it stretching the full length of the pitch.
Bop
Nope, a boy i know lives in the very first house next to FP and he owns it.
Kat
ah well. I'm sure i heard the club had bought some of the properties and used them as offices.
pretzel
ah well. I'm sure i heard the club had bought some of the properties and used them as offices. Yeah I heard that also. Didn't the club also buy land where the old Auto Trader building was. I'm sure 13 flats were planned or something along those lines.
happyslappy
Maybe going a bit off topic. But with this expense and others, the clear out MM seems to be thinking of in the interview. If we do get into europe we will have a tiny squad and I fear if we do get into the "proper" rounds (sorry changed the format that much I can't remember if they are still doing the league) then our form will suffer. Just look at what happened before christmas with injuries and the form we had with the squad back at full strength. Pitch being resurfaced we have already commited too. Fire regulations are necessary. So where we getting the money for another Klimpl as sure as fate he will be ipswich bound or something like that. Not all doom and gloom though bring in the youngsters for the last few games and lets see if we already have the next Klimpl or messi!
