Heard from a very reliable source that Celtic will only take someone who can follow their traditional coaching methods.

The short list is:

1. Fritzel

2. Glitter

3. Jackson

I see McGhee is now the clear favourite for the Celtic job.

john barnes 250 -1  add a few zeros and they'd be closer.

if it is to be let's hope boyle plays a bit of hardball over compensation. celtic shafted us with mccart but we should be able to squeeze them over this.

According to today's Press and Journal, Aberdeen is losing patience with Mark McGhee's dithering. According to them he is holding off to wait on Celtic's call (if that ever comes). The Dons aren't prepared to wait on him forever.

It is the P & J after all so treat the report with caution.

What a steaming pile of mince. McGhee he has absolutely nothing to dither about. If he'd been made an offer and had been thinking it over for a week or two, *that* would be dithering, but nobody's even asked to speak to him so far.

Are AFC expecting him to phone up Pittodrie and demand the job or something?

I'm sure he probably is and i cant see him coming home anytime too soon but if he was to return north of the border Motherwell is somewhere he'd like to play.

And ross i quoted your post because it was fucking stupid, some steamer in a taxi tells your dad what is quite obviously a steaming pile of shite.

To try and get this thread sort of back on track. how far down Celtic's list do we think McGhee is? By my reckoning, they've had two knockbacks (assuming Martinez says no) and I reckon they'll baulk at the compensation West Brom are looking for, so that's the three first names off their list. Where will McGhee come? 4? 6? Even further back? As amusing as it is to see Celtic get the rubber ear from several candidates, it makes it more likely that we could be looking for a new manager. And the drawn out nature of the process at the moment is not helping us at all...

Eric Black won't be going to Aberdeen, as he's confirmed as Steve Bruces assistant at Sunderland. Another name of the list. McGhee could end up getting it by default.

I agree with Melvin though, if McGhee is to leave, it has to be NOW! Last week in fact. We need players in like we've never needed them before and even with McGhee at the helm that is proving a very big ask.

Just get the feeling that Aberdeen is not the one we need to worry ourselves about. They've had a few applications apparently and I think there will be someone there who ticks all their boxes who'll be available, no compensation required. Doesn't mean, however, that McGhee wouldn't be averse to going there if asked, which takes his eye off the ball for our close season. Perversely Celtic is where my worry lies. I thought McGhee had no chance there initially, but as they work their way down their list I reckon there's more chance he'll get it.

Like you, my concern is the fact that how long the process will take...

Today's Rancid, for what it's worth....

Aberdeen close in on Mark McGhee for manager hotseat

Jun 4 2009 Ian Orr

ABERDEEN yesterday gave the clearest indication yet that Mark McGhee is the man they want to be the club's new manager.

Dons' director of football issued a statement in which he admitted their search for a successor to Jimmy Calderwood had hit a stumbling block because their No.1 target is also in the running for the race to become the new Celtic boss.

And as the Aberdeen fans grow frustrated by the delay in appointing a new gaffer, Miller pleaded for patience to ensure the right man is brought to Pittodrie.

He said: "After our place in the Europa League was achieved we have spent the subsequent 10 days pulling out all the stops to ensure no time was wasted but the simple fact is these things do take a bit of time.

"The fact there are several senior vacancies up for grabs at present has probably not helped either, particularly when quite a few names are being linked with several positions at the same time.

"I can completely understand fans are becoming frustrated as time moves on and believe me I share that frustration.

"However, obviously we could not even begin the task of finding someone until after the end of the season as both Jimmy and myself had agreed the first priority was to clinch a return to Europe. We did not want anything to divert from that focus by anything coming out before the Hibs game.

"I am working flat out to finalise matters and as soon as I have done that we will be in a position to make an announcement ahead of what I am confident will be an exciting era for the club. Until that time I do urge all supporters to be patient, although I know it's not easy.

"The fact nobody has been appointed yet has not affected plans for the new season. We are currently finalising our pre-season plans and the players are all aware of what is expected of them in terms of fitness levels on their return.

"We are getting to the endgame as quickly as possible. But there are a number of steps which we have to go through to be sure we have the right man for the job.

"It has been a lengthy task simply going through the dozens of applications. They have come from people currently working in the SPL, former international managers, former Scotland players and ex-international players from throughout Europe - some with UEFA Cup winners' medals.

"The high quality of applicant only underlines the fact this is one of the top jobs in Scottish football."
