Rickoza
The news seems to have taken quite some time to reach Hamilton......... Death of ex-Motherwell player Feb 12 2009 by Andrew McGilvray, Hamilton Advertiser FORMER Motherwell FC star Charlie Cox died aged 82 on December 15 last year following a lengthy battle with A|zheimer's. Charlie will be best remembered for his key role in Motherwell's inaugural Scottish Cup win at Hampden in 1952. The cultured wing-half started his playing career with Yoker Juniors before being picked up by Hearts in 1944. Seven years and 155 competitive appearances later, Charlie was transferred to Motherwell alongside team-mate Tommy Sloan for a combined fee of £6500. Charlie formed a formidable partnership with Andy Paton and Willie Redpath, and reached his peak as Motherwell beat Dundee 4-0 in the 1952 Scottish Cup Final in front of a post-war record attendance of 136,274. The nephew of Motherwell and Scotland star John Blair, many believed him worthy of international recognition. However, he never achieved this. Injuries were to plague Charlie's final years at Fir Park and he left Motherwell in 1958 after playing a total of 89 league games for the club. Charlie married Betty in 1953 and they had three children, although son Euan died two years ago. Charlie is survived by Betty, one son and a daughter. that hat
RIP Charlie. Flow, there is a photo in the Images of Sport book "Motherwell Football Club 1886-1999" of the seven surviving 1952 Cup Winners at Hampden the week before the 1991 final with the Scottish Cup. John Swinburne is also in the picture and he compiled the book. I hope this helps. Same book and page 45 has him in his playing days in a team photo, and also on pages 37, 38 & 39 And a more fullsome tribute in the Scotsman

Special aka
Did the family get to scatter his ashes at Fir Park ?
Alex Spark
The fact that no minutes silence has been held for Charlie Cox is an utter disgrace;this should have been arranged long ago. Two months have now elapsed with the club failing to properly mark his passing;the same shambles happened around a year ago after Charlie Aitken died.... Wake up MFC&get your priorities right
Neil
I was sure it was mentioned at a game, can't remember what one, but almost certain they did something.
Guest 'Flow
There was something in three programme's too... Two of which, the games were postponed!
Alex Spark
Would expect there to be a tribute in the programme, but would also expect a minutes silence..not everyone buys a programme for a start We're talking here about a 1952 team member, having a minutes silence costs nothing&is easy to arrange;it should have taken place several games ago....
