Leeann Dempster
I am on the boards today to make an informal appeal to you all. In and around the ground I am working hard to revitalise areas and this includes our bars, hospitality rooms and all other public areas. Part of this process is to begin to catalogue all the memorabilia we have so the shirts, programmes, awards etc ensuring that we properly conserve every item for the years to come. As important to me is making these items available for display so we can share them with everyone when they visit Fir Park. To that end we have much to do but I'd also be interested in talking to anyone who has memorabilia including photography that they would be willing to share or allow the club to copy for display purposes within the stadium. I don't have any hard and fast ideas as to what will be displayed and where so your ideas welcome. It could be as simple as sharing an iconic photograph that you have whilst capturing a magical moment….who knows. We also have plans to investigate the possibility of creating a heritage trail in and around FP (this was suggested to me by a season ticket holder and I think an excellent idea) and all of the above would likely be used at some point if we proceed with the idea. If nothing else I hope this post will start the debate as to what you all have as regards memorabilia and bring to life some of the memories. I can't PM as I don't post enough so you could reach me on leeann.dempster@motherwellfc.co.uk or indeed talk to Flow. Leeann Ps – It has been on my mind for the past few months to make this appeal however a fellow fan donated 4 posters to the club today that we will reproduce so this donation prompted me to post. Frazzie
That is a tremendous idea. I don't think I have anything that would be of any use - I'm just a youngster compared to some on here - but I thought I'd give a wee bit of feedback. I really like the Steelworks angle on the new strip launch, and I'd like to see some steelworks stuff subtlely displayed at Fir Park. Not only would it be acknowledging the history of the town and the nickname of the team, it would act as a sort of 'conditioner' for if/when we move stadium to Ravenscraig. Kmcalpin
Good idea Leeann. I may have a few bits and pieces that I could contribute to a deserving home. What better place than the home of MFC.

Welldel
Great idea and long overdue. I remember the first time I seen the King of Spain cup and heard the story about how it was won and how we were asked for it back and refused then how it had been found in someone's loft and given back to the club. I was amazed that I had never heard of it before, the club should be shouting about that kind of stuff from the roof tops. The press cuttings from the cup runs and European trips, the goal scoring records of the 30's teams. We have as rich a history as any club in the land, we should be proud of it. Come to think of it do Motherwell heritage centre not already have something like this on the go.
Andy_P
I'm not sure what I have that would be of any use but as an idea for part of a "heritage" trail I remember watching a Scotland youth game from the Govan Stand at Ibrox and was impressed with the large black and white canvas prints they had of important players and matches in the concourses. Perhaps something the club might want to do on the walls of the East, Cooper and O'Donnell stands.
Angie 1991
Might be an idea to talk to Sandy McBain,Sandy has been a Motherwell Supporter for many years and is also a tour guide at the football museum at Hampden,I am sure he could help with memorabilia and ideas. Fal_Dosser
Seems like a good time to see what I've stored away since the 60's Like Andy_P, I was also thinking of prints of past heroes, I suppose similar to what the Jambo's have done. Whatever approach we take, it's a great idea to celebrate our team and heritage everytime FP is visited NON RA DOSSERS
beesher
there are some cracking photos from Nancy knocking about, I'm sure a few folk would love to see their pics inthe stadium.
Old Silver
Reid Printers over in Blantyre used to print the program and they had a load of old photies of players etc stuck in the loft. I used to use them quite a bit myself when at two previous employers and I got a look over some of the old stuff. They had a bit of a re-org/buyout a few years back and this stuff might not have survived but the Sales Director there is a former player of the club so he might be worth contacting. I have some scans of the Reid Printer images but will have to go see where I put them. The other thing that's been mentioned above is the North Lanarkshire Council employee (I don't know if he's still with them - I think his name might be Andy) who built up a pretty comprehensive database that was available to peruse down at the Heritage Centre. A really good shout for something of this ilk would be to see whether those digital assets could be used on a big touchscreen in something like a heritage room in the Phil O Donnell stand. Would make for a cracking stadium tour showpiece - imagine the sights and sounds of excerpts of the big games of the past! Or browsing through player biographies, reading season summaries. Just some ideas!
Coolhandluc
Great idea! I've got a framed black and white photo of Gary McAllister celebrating scoring in the 1985(?) league cup semi at hampden v Celtic. It's the original one taken by the Motherwell times photographer. Also used to have loads of scrapbooks from the 70s. They would bring back lots of memories for many of us; wonder where they are now? TheLip69
Marvellous idea and something that will get the fans talking. Can I just make a point though, while I have no wish to decry the naming of parts of the stadium after iconic players it does annoy me that there are few references to Sailor Hunter. In the history of Motherwell Foootball club there is no bigger or more important personage than John Hunter. I would like to see his memory honoured in a permanent way at Fir Park. I have consistently put his name forward for inclusion into the Scottish Football Hall of Fame, to no avail, maybe the club giving him some, overdue, recognition may set the ball rolling. foghorn
There are a few older team and individual photgraphs on the walls of the Fir Park Club and I am sure if they were approached in the correct manner would allow these to be copied. Neil
I've no idea how feasible it is, but it would be good to have something a la Hearts with great players/teams canvas up on the ends of the stands/floodlights. That way, we could immortalise the 1952 squad, 1991, indeed even the 31/32 league winning side if photographs exist and have them there for all to see, then the really important people- Sailor Hunter, Dougie, Joe Wark etc on their own canvasses. fatcalf
FWIW our heritage must not begin after the war like yon Greatest Ever shite. As stated above, Sailor Hunter was probably the single most important individual in terms of making the club what it came to be, the style of fitba' (obviously gleaned from reports of the day, and Big Keith's own personal recollections )which brought our first silverware, the dedication he showed in serving the club, taking the game to lesser known parts of the world through summer tours and spreading the gospel. We were effectively the first European Champions in 1927 and should be immensely proud of our history, especially the early to middle part of last century. That would be quality. I actually looked on enviously at the Hearts posters areoung Tynie. They seem to have their act together R.e. heritage despite being filled with Lithuanians!! We should try and emulate their efforts and the posters on the floodlights would be a cracking, and attractive addition to the stadium. In fact, how about one HUGE big fuck off poster of the league winning team, the size of the yella frame at the 'standless' part of the main stand!!
