El Grew
Just wondered who might be for the chop this season and how many points we'd need to avoid it. Based on all seasons of the SPL the stats below might give some clues. ALL TIME (1975/76 - 2007/08) Average number points of teams relegated = 22 Highest number of points to be relegated = 36 (Dundee Utd 1994/95) Lowest number of points to be relegated = 11 (St Johnstone 1975/76) IN 12 TEAM SPL Average number points of teams relegated = 24 Highest number of points to be relegated = 33 (Dundee 1994/94) Lowest number of points to be relegated = 13 (Gretna 2007/08) So how many points will we need to be safe? Here are our fixtures up to the split: ST MIRREN (AWAY) HEARTS (HOME) DUNDEE UTD (AWAY) FALKIRK (HOME) HIBS (AWAY) HAMILTON (HOME) CELTIC (HOME) ICT (AWAY) HEARTS (AWAY) DUNDEE UTD (HOME) KILMARNOCK (AWAY) ABERDEEN (HOME) RANGERS (AWAY) ST MIRREN (HOME)
ColtnessDosser
Averages are by definition skewed by the Gretna and St Johnstone scenarios where one team finds itself isolated early on and ends up with a very low points total. I don't see that happening this season, so i reckon we need to be looking towards 30 points.
Rickoza
This could require up to 35 or more points to be absolutely certain. With so many taking points off each other, really could go down to the wire.
something else
Hamilton to go down, ICT second bottom and Falkirk third bottom. I think we'll finish 8th due to our poor start.
that hat
Needing to sell all their top players due to their abject failure in Europe, and with an under fire manager who seems increasingly unable to motivate the dross that remains, it looks like Rangers will be candidates for the drop. scott_mfc
I don't think hamilton will go down. After the game on Saturday, I find it hard for anyone to believe ICT will actually stay up. Hamilton have to much dig and fight in them, and St Mirren also have a couple of players who are able to pull things out the bag. The dismantling of ICT has already started...wait for Brewster to be under fire over february time if they go crashing out the Scottish cup. I think we are safe, and only at the end of january will the league take shape properly.
Tweed
Thought it would be Inverness at the start and at the moment they don't look like they could beat anyone. Accies have a bit about them and McCarthy and McArthur have that bit of quality in the middle that so many teams lack. I stuggle to see ICT hitting 30 to be honest. Gaag
i don't think we should even be considering relegation to be honest. It's quite simply not gonna happen!
TheLip69
I must admit I have said Inverness from day one, and I haven't seen anything to change my mind so far. Inverness to pip Accies to the drop and St Johnstone to replace them.
Faddyisgod
Inverness for me to and if we continue to play like we did on Saturday, comfortably in the top 6 for us. All the clubs above us are due a sticky patch and we are hopefully through ours so we should be fine.
Motherwell Football Club
Teams like Kilmarnock have played above them selves for a large part of the season so far. If things continue like they rightfully should i see us finishing 7th.
superwell87
Inverness in my opinion.
Gaag
Accies I reckon. Don't wanna see inverness go down cos it's my home town 'away' game!
Ya Bezzer!
Inverness and Falkirk will probably have new managers before long so it could be down to who the respective boards bring in to replace them.
Special aka
Being purely selfish I hope it's Accies who go down. Inverness is as near as I get to a home game and a vibrant Accies team could be an alternative option for young lads growing up in the Clyde valley ! jammyget
God, I hope it's Inverness.
DEWELL
I think it'll be Accies as ICT are more streetwise and experienced in the SPL. We'll finish 3rd bottom just in front.
well_nuts
would love it to be St. Mirren. Moving to a new stadium and going down how i would laugh. I think it will be ITC
fatcalf
Would prefer a continuation of the local derbies even though we lose most of em. ICT for me, not before time tae
Robyn
would love it to be St. Mirren. Moving to a new stadium and going down how i would laugh. I think it will be ITC I agree! Plus, we can all go on the P&B and whenever their annoying wee fuckers of fans come on the SPL Forum we can tell them to leave and head off to the First Division forum with their tail between their legs! Oooh, how I'd laugh!
