fatcalf
I appreciate the fact they choose that path else conscription would be the norm. Then a lot of you might think differently. Fuck that War carry on, those guys n gals have my utmost respect. As for the negatives, just shows the Young Socialist propaganda machines at our learning establishments are still doing a grand job. Mon the Sodjers. Malky79
I'm sure you would rather they were givin to Muslim extremists...bawbag. Funny, not sure if it was intentional but funny none the less. I dunno about extremists but maybe we could hand out some free season tickets at the local mosque, get a bit more social cohesion on the go. Maybe do a wee two for one, free Motherwell ruck sack with every one?
delboy
Somehow I very much doubt that. which bit?
fatcalf
which bit? The idea that the sodjers we're giving tickets to will sing pro-UVF songs. They are Motherwell fans after all whilst no matter what section of society they're from h**s always act the same way. Mind the game where only the official party had access yet we still heard their bigoted chants for example?
Kmac
This is ludicrous! They do a JOB!! They GET PAID!! So does everybody else who goes to the football, where are the season tickets for us? Grim Give free season tickets to school kids..least then we maybe have chance of future return.. Whats next as part of our 'british alignment' are we going to start playing god save the queen over the tanoid whilst eyeryone who brings a union jack gets a free scarf? Mental Theses are public servants...police, NHS staff, fire services are all in the same boat so why are we not broadining it out to these people? Frazzie
I think the commercial reasoning behind it is, apart from the good PR, the army is one of very few jobs that has a short-ish career. Nevermind retirement age- I'm on about discharges, etc and these people will come back from serving abroad or wherever and look to get back to some sort of normal routine. If they've been getting used to going to Fir Park then it's very possible that it's something that they'll continue to do when they've finished serving. I don't think that anyone at the club would say it's a political move, and I doubt it's Leann Dempsters way of throwing her weight behind the war in Iraq. It's a nice gesture, and the club will benefit from it in the short and long term. Don't read too much into it.

Mon the Sodjers. The highlighted part I don't understand. What you are saying is that anyone who doesn't agree with soldiers being given free season tickets (which I don't personally agree with) is wrong, and that it's the fault of the "young socilaist propaganda machines"? Neil
If it's filling empty seats then they should be doing something similar to St Mirren by letting people on the dole in for cheaper/free. Do they give them discounted season tickets similar to concessions? I have never signed on or whatever, but I presume you need to have some card to prove you're job seeking, so let them get in for concession rates/season tickets etc? Yabba's Turd
It should be 1 kill = 1 family season ticket. Has to be a head shot though, none of this melee shit unless it's with a rusty nail or something ingenious If it's filling empty seats then they should be doing something similar to St Mirren by letting people on the dole in for cheaper/free. Think Motherwell were one od the last clubs to get rid of their UB40 gate back in the day.
nethertonwellfan
Let's get something clear here Doctors and Nurses do a great job but they aren't away form their famillies for months on end with the risk of be blew into next week. And Doctors come on they are bloody minted so they can afford their own season tickets. I just wonder if Celtic will follow suit

I'd be against anything that further de-incentivises (perhaps a made-up word) someone from finding work. And folk on the dole are less likely to buy programmes, merchandise, etc when they're there which makes it less beneficial to the club. Also, it tells you everything that's wrong with the world that some people would prioritise the viewership of Jeremy Kyle and purchasers of microwave meals for one above people who fight and die for our country. To turn your arguement round, not all the unemployed are like your description many didn't choose to be and were laid off when things went tits up recently or are graduates who can't get a job in their field. Unlike those who choose to go off and fight and then get freebies.

I'm not sure about discounted season tickets for unemployed people. Pay at the gate perhaps for short term alleviation of hardship. That said outside of a potential fishing trip are you seriously suggesting being unempoyed equals being a Jeremy Kyle viewing sore on society? I have no doubt there are unincentivised people out there that would be happy to just live off society and might take advantage but I think you might be insulting quite a lot of people by insuating that because they happen to be out of work they are Jeremy Kyle loving scum of the earth? As for people that fight and die for our country, their choice. Firemen risk their lives on a regular basis and don't get extra rewards. They know the risks also. Morally I think they are on far firmer ground than what are essentially a bunch of hired killers. They aren't sainted individuals that we should be bowing and scraping to for protecting us from the evil Iraquis or Afghanis or whoever they are being asked to blow the shite out of today just so we can get some cheap oil. Good call on the firemen. As for your other point well servicemen who sign up have to do what her majesty's government tell them whether they agree with the cause or not. I'm sure they aren't all bastards and horrible people but I seriously question how much they think about what they are doing before they do it. I don't want to shoot someone because our wonderful and never does anything wrong government tells me to do so I don't join the military. Well aware not everyone runs around with a gun also, but you are part of a mechanism that kills in the name of our government. Just following orders wasn't acceptable as defence for germans after WWII and I daresay a hell of a lot of them didn't particuarly want to invade Poland et al. I dunno maybe they did but would seem unlikely. Anyway enough from me on this issue, been round in circles on this one before. I don't like the bumming up of the military and think as a club we should be neutral and not be chasing after some cheap PR because it's so in vogue at the moment. Wasn't much call for this sort of thing after prisoner abuse scandal time?

Kmac
+1. Well done MFC. I think this is kind of missing the point. The grievance is that why shoudl people who choose to go into the army and get paid for their services be allowed free entry? We are not in a period of conscription! I assume you work and pay taxes therefore putting something back into the country and sate...these people put something back into the sate in other means yes but chose that path in life...why are you not screaming for a free seat? Would seem I value human live, including those of the soldiers your supposedly defending, more than you do. To not reason makes us and them less than human that's a fine attitude. And as to do or die, yeah you really value their lives a whole lot.
