biggayal0
Sorry if this has already been discussed, after listening to Mark McGhee at the weekend he spoke about a forth place finish getting into Europe. Is a forth place finish an automatic European place or does it depend on who wins the Scottish cup?
Shotts Well Fan
I could be wrong here but I thought it was only available if the Scottish Cup winner had already qualified, so that the loser would not now quallify (if that makes sense). Although I also thought I saw somewhere that we had got a higher UEFA co-efficient which may have got us an extra place.
niall
from wiki: "Associations ranked 7–9 in the UEFA coefficients will send the Cup winner and three other teams to the UEFA Europa League qualification, all other nations send a Cup winner and two other teams, except Liechtenstein, Andorra and San Marino, who will only send a Cup winner. " i think we're 10th or 11th edit: and we still have 2 teams in the Champions League
patons02
As far as I'm aware, as of this season the 4th placed team is into the UEFA cup Qualifying rounds.

huggins
Think they have done away with the Scottish Cup europian place and use it for the 4th place finish
patons02
Was it not that the runners up spot from the Scottish Cup was scrapped for 4th place?
Neil
We have 2 from the league and one from the Cup, should the Cup be an all old-firm affair, for example, then top 5 get in.
Andy H
The top 4 get in. 5th gets in if the winner of the SC is in the top
dufc4
Top four and scottish cup finalists depending on league positions. European campaign starts at end of July for those that finish 4th.
DC'd
Reasoning for this is that UEFA have totally scrapped the Intertoto Cup, and it is now a huge extension of the UEFA Cup. Basically comined the two and replaced it with a new name "The Europa Cup". Whereas before the Intertoto was totally optional and each country were not obliged to send a participant. I mean, Dundee and Hibs, Partick are the only ones really to take part from Scotland. Very rarely used. But, now we are compelled to send a team to the very beginning of the Europa Cup. This is the equivelant of the start of the Intertoto, whereas before we would have (if chose to take part) been playing our first tie early July. The team that finishes 5th (assuming the Cup winners have qualified) will have there first game at the start of June. So, about a fortnight after the last game of the season/Scottish Cup. Handy.. dufc4
So, about a fortnight after the last game of the season/Scottish Cup. Handy.. Is it not the middle to end of July? Had a discussion on a utd forum last week about this (eastie) and it said it was the end of july the period would campaign would start. DC'd
I am positive that it is the start of June. It's ridiculously early. Basically the start of the old Intertoto which did indeed start at the beginning on June (Scottish teams used to enter at a later stage which was indeed mid-July). SteelEdge
I don't have anything to really contribute to this thread, aside from commenting that it's a ridiculously early start for the teams taking part. I've really just posted to say that I'm in the Stade Marcel Picot picture in biggayal0's signature. I'm wearing the 'Well bucket hat directly below the flag with the Motherwell badge on it. I was on my way to the bog...

Robyn
Ooh jeez, would you shut up! You know what, never mind from a personal point of view wanting to see the 'Well get into Europe again but, for it to happen and prove you wrong! It may well be your opinion but, its sounds more of an opinion of someone wanting the club to miss out in Europe rather than get there again! Mon 'Well, lets do it.. Wellfan1984
Fuck it! We're gonna win the Scottish Cup. I think, depending on what happens at the weekend 5th place is likely to be good enough to get to Europe
