SPLrefs.com
The referee for Saturday's game against Hamilton is Mike Tumilty. The full list of match officials can be found by clicking http://www.SPLrefs.com You will also find on the site a wide range of stats relating to Mike Tumilty including Motherwell games he has refereed and his general refereeing stats over the last 2 seasons. http://www.splrefs.com/Motherwell/Referee-...10&RefID=16 Additionally, we are running a poll on our site to gauge fans opinions on what they see as the single most important change you would make to help improve refereeing. We'd love you to vote as we are planning to communicate with the SFA soon and we will be feeding the results of our poll to them to let them understand the fans views on this important issue. Rickoza
Would change one thing which isn't listed - offisde. Either you are or you aren't, none of this second phase nonsense.
ekwellfan
The single most important thing to improve standards of refereeing would be video technology. This will never happen as Rangers and Celtic are totally against it. (As are the Big Four in England) The whole of Ibrox and Parkhead shouting for a penalty undoubtedly will influence any referee and the 'Big Clubs' would not want the decision to be actually proved correct. This works vice versa when our handful of fans claim a penalty and can easily be ignored by match officials. You can argue many things but the Big decisions should be correct. Only when video technology comes in is there a chance of this occuring.
Big Stall
Why do only 'experienced' and supposedly the best refs get to officiate old firm games, when there is no such entry requirement for a game between the likes of Motherwell and St Mirren? Do Rangers and Celtic have a greater need of reliable ref's than we do? Do they get more points than the rest of us for a win?? NO!!
gdalli10
id vote for all in that poll except foreign refs, and refs behind the goal
Finlay
Totally agree with Rickoza. That rule is even worse when you are at the game live and don't have benefit of replays etc.
Yir Elder
My own personal change to improve things would be refs actually talking to players like adults and showing the respect they expect to receive. I'd also love them to talk after games to explain their views on the game they've refereed.
Bigeeze
I'd like to see a similar rule to the 1 in rugby. dissent (sp) gets the ball moved up by 10 yards. keep doing it and you keep losing 10 yards. If this takes you to the bye line then a "penalty" goal is awarded. Also if players want to be treated as adults by the referee then some of them should stop acting like spoiled kids. Respect works both ways
Tweed
Why do only 'experienced' and supposedly the best refs get to officiate old firm games, when there is no such entry requirement for a game between the likes of Motherwell and St Mirren? Do Rangers and Celtic have a greater need of reliable ref's than we do? Do they get more points than the rest of us for a win?? NO!! Players work up to playing in the biggest games by doing well consistently, referees should have the same motivation. What I think is unfair that people such as Stevie O'Reilly Euan Norris and Crawford Allan never seem to get games between anyone and the Old Firm when the Old Firm are away as they have shown themselves to be good referees and need to be building up to getting the real big games such as the Edinburgh teams v Glasgow teams, United or Aberdeen v Glasgow teams. My own personal change to improve things would be refs actually talking to players like adults and showing the respect they expect to receive. I'd also love them to talk after games to explain their views on the game they've refereed. Yep but its a two way thing so players can only expect that if they stop crowding them and abusing them. Talking after the game was tried with Whistleblower but when they admitted they made a mistake the tabloid press demonised them, if they came out straight after the game and defended an error their credibility would be questioned even more by said press. If we had grown up journalism it could work. I'd like to see a similar rule to the 1 in rugby. dissent (sp) gets the ball moved up by 10 yards. keep doing it and you keep losing 10 yards. If this takes you to the bye line then a "penalty" goal is awarded. The 10 yard thing is good in principal and was tried in the Premiership but the attacking team did not always like it as it moved them in too close and the free kick became less effective. I remember Beckham doing his dinger at a ref because of that. However it is something that should be worked on. The change I would implement is that if a player goes down and grabs the ball before the whistle goes I would book them regardless if the fk went for them or not. Forcing the referee to make a decision to me is unacceptable.

Easy way round this would be to offer the team who have the free kick the option of moving anything up to 10 yards, or not at all if preferred. Anything to stop players standing in front of the ball or kicking the ball away MON RA DOSSERS
