Wellfan1984
With Halsman on loan till Janaury to Annan Athletic and Steven Lawless on a months loan to the same club. And Dario Quinn on loan to the Rose I thought it would be a good idea to keep tabs on their performances. Annan Athletic have played two competative games (they are playing their third right now). In their first game, they lost 3-2 to Stenhousemuir where both Motherwell boys came on as subs. Lawless even managed to get on the score sheet. 3-0 down at the time... Annan pushed forward for the final fifteen minutes Gilfillan and Jack both had efforts on goal before Annan finally got the breakthrough in 87th minute. It was a well worked move with Pat Walker and Mike Jack combining to cut open the home defence and Steven Lawless finished clinically with a low shot from six yards Second game was a defeat against Partick Thistle. Halsman started and was booked. He was replaced on the hour. Lawless made an appearance, coming on as a sub in the 86th minute.

madwullie
The Rose were playing today, but have no idea about the score or anything - if I'd remembered about Quinn I might even have got off my arse and watched it.

tree
First game of the season saw Annan win 3-1 at home to East Stirlingshire with Jordan Halsman getting Annan's second goal. He played the 90 and his volleyed finish at the back post was well taken. He looks confident and comfortable on the ball and definately adds quality and energy to our left side. Although Steven Lawless didn't get on, he's been involved in the pre-season games, looks to be settling in and will get plenty time on the pitch. Good luck to both the lads. wee g
Both loanees played in a friendly last night for Annan. Halsman at left back and Lawless in midfield. Both had impressive games with Lawless scoring 2 and setting 4 up. Hopefully both will be back all the better from their loans and add to an impressive group of youngsters fighting for first team games. Lobey_Dosser
The abundance of players getting sent out on loan highlights a big flaw in the Scottish game for me. Young has done a great job with the recent Under 19s team with an impressive number getting signed up on long term contracts. Due to the absence of a Reserve/Under 21 league though we need to send them out on loan. While I appreciate they need to get farmed out for 1st team football now, surely it would be of greater benefit to the players and the clubs if these players continued to play with each other week in week out for another year before really being able to make a push for the 1st team. No disrespect to the likes of Albion Rovers but the amount you are going to learn from these clubs is limited.

wee g
100% right mate, but they all will still train full time at FP, but are not going to get any game time. The main reasons are to keep them match fit and hopefully toughen them up. As you have said the biggest loss to the scottish game for these youngsters is the reserve league/under21 folding. The last thing the club can afford is for these guys to be sitting on their rear ends in the stand for a year or 2.
Malky79
I'd imagine competative fixtures at a lower level would be better than U21/reserve outings.
Lobey_Dosser
I'd imagine competative fixtures at a lower level would be better than U21/reserve outings. I agree with that to an extent but my point is that for the benefit of Motherwell, it would be better if our players were playing together week in week out. Malky79
Maybe but of the younger ones, realisticaly only a small few progress to first team. Not sure you lose that much, and daresay even when getting loaned out at times they'll still train and play together plenty enough to form understandings and the like. Orinoco
hope these guys can be recalled, because we only appear to have fitzy as backup to our midfield. Our squad is get smaller by each passing month.
