Wankers. You can tell that they're on the starting blocks ready to let loose. It was looking immense both in the flesh and it was looking the best of all the surfaces on the TV highlights. Credit where credits due. The pitch drains like a fuckin dream. And (since they relaid it anyway) the problem has never been about it holding water. underboyleheating
Pitch is holding up so well that I may need to change my name from Underboyleheating to Undersoilbeating. Still early days but I think we may have won the war against our dreaded pitch.
delboy
the press really won't get started until one of the old scum teams play at Fir park on a rainy day and one of their defenders slips and Murphy sneaks in to score his hat trick cue NL or WS complaining about an unnatural surface
real dosser
Watched the end of the Barca/Mallorca game last night and they were slaughtering Barca for the state of the Nou Camp. Apparently they have just relayed the surface and it was cutting up something awful. One of the Barca players ( can't remember who) did his hamstring and the commemtators were attributing it to the pitch. Only good point is that he's one of the Spanish side who looks like he won't be playing against Scotland next week. If a wee diddy team like Barca canny get their pitch right what chance have the Dossers ???
Welldel
According to Devlin in the Sun and a twat called McDermott in the Record, our pitch was a sodden, death trap and the poor stmidden players were lucky to finish the game with their lifes. Our pitch caused the poor wee soles to slip and concede a goal and then a penalty. Funny that Humph didnt have much trouble keeping his feet before firing us infront. fuckin arseholes. Steve Diggle
The pitch was immaculate and if someone at the club needs to get a haud of the press then that's what should happen. I know that's risk considering how we don't know how the winter will go and our track record and going public now will require having to remain public during the difficult winter months. But like I said earlier credit where it's due - it looks like it's the best playing surface in the country right now. Even last year at this time - although the pitch looked good - you could see it tearing a bit under a heavy sliding challenge - nothing like that this year
Guest 'Flow
Interesting to note two things: 1. A member of the St Mirren playing squad and a member of the matchday officials both said it was the best pitch they had seen/played on so far this campaign. 2. The club has received a top mark 5/5 (for the pitch) from every SPL delegate in all four of home matches. I was quite surprised by some of the language used in the papers today. Particularly as Motherwell players didn't seem to have a problem keeping their feet...

Welldel
All the more infuriating when one of the "journalists" in question is a supposed Well fan. Ignorant, lazy journalism yet again from our friends in the media.
milo
The pitch looks absolutely fantastic. How anyone can even contemplate beginning to knock it is incredible really. The press are utter wankers.
Wellarmy
Anything to take the gloss off a good victory for us. Hopefully the pitch can hold up so we can get it right up them.
fatcalf
Better questioning the boots their players were using, if a pro canny wear the correct studs then he deserves slaughtered instead of blaming a pitch on which most of the players had no problem whatsoever. Ma 12 year old can even choose which studs to wear on a certain surface.

LADY LUCK had a big call to make. Motherwell, sitting deeper and deeper, hadn't won at home all season. St Mirren, pressing higher and higher, hadn't won away from home all year. Who, when they needed her most, would she choose to desert? Deep down, every Saints fan knew the answer. They had watched their heroes slug their way back into the match after falling behind just two minutes in. They had danced for joy when Gareth Wardlaw blasted in a deserved equaliser. And they had shouted themselves hoarse willing their side on to a winner. But it never came. Instead, more gut-wrenching misery was dumped their way. Two goals in a fabulous last four minutes handed Well all three points on an afternoon when Saints had every right to curse their wretched luck. Paddy Cregg - making his Saints debut - slipped on the sodden Fir Park surface allowing Chris Humphrey to pounce and fire a stunning early opener. Wardlaw's leveller had give Danny Lennon's men hope, but all their hard work was undone in two manic minutes. First, the Saints defence got themselves into a terrible mess when keeper Craig Samson also slipped on the pitch when he attempted to get his boot to Lee Mair's pass back. Sammy had got himself back to his feet and would have got there in time, but Mair elected to barge Well sub Alan Gow off the ball resulting in an 86th minute spot kick for the home side. Tom Hateley held his nerve from 12 yards out. A minute later, as Saints threw everyone forward in one last, desperate throw of the dice, Well broke once more with Gow again the provider. His superb cross was met at the back post by Jamie Murphy who blasted home from close range. Defeat snatched from the jaws of victory. Keeper Samson could scarcely believe it. He groaned: "There have been two big incidents really and on both occasions we've lost our footing and slipped. "Paddy for the first goal and then obviously me for the penalty. Well boss Craig Brown was delighted to secure his side's first home win of the season. Read more: http://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/scotsol/ho...l#ixzz11NrmXsfB IT never rains but it pours for St Mirren these days. In fact, if it hadn't lashed down in Lanarkshire prior to kick-off on Saturday the Buddies could have left Fir Park with a much-needed win. Instead, they let three points slip away from them - quite literally. After just three minutes, new signing Paddy Cregg lost his footing on the wet pitch and allowed Well winger Chris Humphrey to score with a cracking shot that flew past keeper Craig Samson. Then, after Danny Lennon's men had hauled themselves back into the game courtesy of a terrific Gareth Wardlaw strike, another slip-up cost them. Just as Saints pressed for a winner, Lee Mair attempted a passback to his keeper who stumbled on the treacherous surface. Samson would have still got up in time to boot the ball clear but in a panic the defender blocked the run of onrushing Motherwell sub Alan Gow and gifted the home side a penalty. Tom Hateley stepped up to make it 2-1 and to complete a miserable day for Lennon, the Steelmen hit them with a sucker-punch third when Gow set up Jamie Murphy to seal the points for Craig Brown. The result left St Mirren rooted to the bottom of the SPL after a fourth straight defeat but if they keep performing like this for the rest of the campaign they will pick up victories. Stand-in keeper Samson - handed his first start in place of the injured Paul Gallacher - insisted morale is still high inside the Paisley dressing room and they aren't on the slide. It looked as if the outcome of this match was a foregone conclusion just three minutes in when Humphrey fired the home side in front. Cregg's slip on the edge of the box allowed the Englishman to stride forward and unleash an unstoppable drive beyond Samson and into the far corner of the net. It was all Well early on and Hateley almost made it 2-0 with a wicked freekick that cannoned off the crossbar. Saints didn't look a threat going forward and Brown's side could have been home and dry before half-time. Nick Blackman fired a 25-yard shot goalward and the former Ayr United keeper turned it round the post. But just before the interval Lennon's men almost grabbed an equaliser. Wardlaw missed a sitter when strike partner Michael Higdon headed back across goal from a Hugh Murray free-kick. The former Cowdenbeath frontman flicked it wide when it looked easier to score. Then in stoppage time, Higdon got across Well keeper Darren Randolph from a Paul McGowan corner and flashed a header against the bar, with Wardlaw failing to convert the rebound. Incredibly, the second period belonged to the Paisley side yet Motherwell ran out 3-1 winners. After 63 minutes McGowan picked out Wardlaw in the box with a super pass and he turned Mark Reynolds before drilling home from eight yards. It was the frontman's first SPL goal and his finish was well worth the wait. There was only one team pressing for the winner as Well were pegged back into their own half. McGowan's cheeky effort from the edge of the box had Randolph scrambling to tip over and you sensed a Saints winner. But football can be a cruel game at times. With four minutes left Mair felt Samson might not reach his backpass before Gow after a slip and decided to barge into the striker as he chased the ball down. Ref Iain Brines had no hesitation in pointing to the spot and Hateley made no mistake with the penalty. As shell-shocked Saints desperately tried to find a leveller they were hit on the break when Gow found space on the left flank and produced a sublime pass for Murphy on the run. The Scotland Under-21 hitman slotted it past Samson to clinch a victory they barely deserved. what bits do you think are out of order? i don't see anything slating the pitch. steelboy
the first 3 goals were all at least partly cause by players losing their footing. that doesn't happen very often and i think it's fair to say that the pitch was treacherous due to the conditions. Welldel
Every reference to sodden pitch, treacheroUs surface or even the headline of the record article" Caution Wet Saint, Buddies slide to defeat on sodden pitch", with a wee stick man in a Saints (stripy top) falling over all betray an over willingness to slate our pitch at every opportunity. You can tell they are all dying for our pitch to cut up, dry up like previous seasons.
Kris*Kaizer 2*Nunn
I dont see the problem. Yeah they were slipping on the park, Randolph slipped for their goal. I seen a guy slip in the Civic centre car park cause of the rain. What annoys me more is that motherwell fan till he dies Andy Devlin had a go at the state of the pitch. prick

Onthefringes
As has been said, credit where credit is due. Had a look at it at close quarters during the week and a marked difference between the present and of that at a similar time last year when we had our club photos taken in our new kit. Unlike last season, where use of a geo-grid was evident - not that it was wrong, it gave the impression that the surface was a little bare at closer inspection. Paying heed to specialist advice, the fibre sand installed looks to have shored up the pitch, making it hold together much better. Grass looks more plentiful offering the lush surface that we see from the vantage points in the stands. Genuinely fantastic drainage, it's keeping the moisture in the soil for longer is the key, well, that and keeping trigger fingers from the 'on' switch of the heating system... Gone all of a flutter there, given my criticism in recent seasons. We know it's only early, and the onset of what could be another harsh winter started on Saturday, we have a surface befitting a team who's best of the rest - keep it up. So it was only treacherous for the Saints (as reported) Sometimes you'd argue black was white sir Next we'll be watering it deliberately before the start of each half to make sure it's treacherous (and different from the conditions the teams warm up in / potentially base their stud decision on) We don't see that reported very often when they do it in Govan, do we?
