Dougie Ramsey

Dougie is in my work today on a course, he is now working as a brickie.

I remember him as being a very good player who probably deserved more of a chance with us.

I can vaguely remember a goal he scored from distance at Fir Park, anyone know who it was against.

both his goals were belters in classic games but away from fir park. as a player he was a bit like forbes in that he had one great foot but was slower than gary glitter walking by a playground.

relegating owen colye!

Dunfermline 1 Motherwell 2 Substitute Dougie Ramsay's 25-yard injury-time strike snatched a win for Motherwell at relegated Dunfermline.

Dunfermline's drop to the First Division was reflected by a crowd of just 3,532 at East End Park - the smallest gate for three seasons.

But those who stayed away missed an impressive debut from 18-year-old Steve Boyle.

The youngster scored a thunderbolt for the Pars from 25 yards with his left foot and later beat Andy Goram again with his right foot from almost the same distance only to be denied by the crossbar.

Both sides fielded a number of youngsters but for most of the first half Motherwell looked as if they were suffering from end-of-the-season blues.

The home team coped better with a troublesome gale force wind and Goram was in trouble on a number of occasions before Boyle scored his goal in the 20th minute.

Dunfermline were on top in the first half but there were ominous signs, when Motherwell attacked, of the shakiness in the home defence that had been so evident in recent games.

After the break Motherwell were a different side. In the 46th minute Lee McCulloch had Pars keeper Lee Butler at full stretch to palm away his header at the far post.

On the hour Butler was lucky to be in the right position to clutch a McCulloch header from three yards.

In the 76th minute Don Goodman finally grabbed an equaliser for Motherwell. He picked up a long forward ball and went through on his own to lob the ball over the advancing Butler.

Motherwell looked likely to snatch a winner and Ramsay, who had come on for Steve McMillan in the first half, obliged.

Dunfermline boss Dick Campbell attacked Premier League managers for claiming that four of his players - Andy Todd, Andy Smith, Greg Shields and Dave Graham - would be looking to play Premier League football next season.

"They should learn to look after and talk about their own players," snapped Campbell.

"I promise fans that these four named players will be playing for the club at the beginning of next season."

Campbell admitted that the Pars' performance underlined why they had gone down, and added: "I am releasing 12 players tomorrow and I already have my eye on a number of players I will be signing for the start of the new season."

Motherwell boss Billy Davis said: "We indulged too much in short passing in the first half and paid the penalty. We broadened it out in the second half and it produced the necessary goals.

"I'm so pleased that our new player Don Goodman finally broke his duck and I look forward to him scoring many goals next season."

Kilmarnock 0-3 Motherwell

E-mail your reaction to Football Talk Motherwell had to wait until Kilmarnock were reduced to nine men before securing three points at Rugby Park.

Gary Locke and Andy McLaren both saw red before Dougie Ramsay opened the scoring for the visitors.

Stephen Pearson put Well further ahead before Jesus Sanjuan was also ordered off.

James McFadden deepened the misery for Killie with a third goal late on.

Photo gallery: Saturday's SPL action The opening period was scrappy, with neither side able to keep possession for any length of time.

Kilmarnock should have gone ahead when a Stevie Woods mistake presented Steve Fulton with a free shot at goal, but the midfielder failed to hit the target.

McFadden forced Marshall into a superb save after 23 minutes.

The youngster got the break of the ball before turning to shoot from 16 yards, but Marshall managed to dive low to his left and gather.

Motherwell had a decent claim for a penalty waved away by referee Alan Freeland in the 34th minute when Dindeleux appeared to push Adams off the ball as he closed in on goal.

The game had been littered with fouls, but referee Freeland managed to infuriate the home support in the 49th minute when he red-carded Gary Locke.

Locke had been trying to hold off Derek Adams in midfield, but Freeland decided it was violent conduct and showed a straight red.

Ten minutes later, Killie were down to nine men when Andy McLaren picked up his second booking for dissent.

The visitors were lucky not to be reduced to 10 men in the 61st minute when Kinniburgh brought down Dargo.

Fortunately for the youngster, who stopped the Killie striker in his tracks 30 yards from goal, referee Freeland only gave him a yellow card as there were two defenders in close proximity.

Motherwell opened the scoring in spectacular style when Dougie Ramsay found space 20 yards out and blasted the ball low past Marshall.

Killie began to chase the game and Motherwell doubled their advantage with only minutes remaining when Pearson raced clear of the Killie defence and allowed Marshall to go to ground before casually knocking it past him into the net.

Sanjuan became the third Killie player to be sent off after he tugged Lasley back when the player was going clear on goal.

From the resultant free-kick, McFadden whipped the ball over the wall from 25 yards and into the net for Motherwell's third.

relegating coyle made it a great day. it's a shame that being a perrenial top six team we're unlikely to relegate anyone again for a good while, sending killie or st mirren down would be magic.

i also remember boyle was out on the pitch at the end doing a wee walk round the fans at the end of that game

I was at both those games and remember them well. At the Dumfermline game I got Derek Adams away strip off the kit man at the time who I had become friends with. When Dougie Ramsay opened the scoring at Rugby Park I ran down the steps and he "high fived" me as he ran by! A proud moment for my family I'm sure you'll agree!

Might not be that far off if a 16 team league is voted in in December.

He scored from well out at Dunfermline on the last game of the season. I remember it being a nice sunny day and I thought he was over towards the Well support in the old terracing along the touchline when he hit it but that would put him on the left which doesn't sound right.

He looked a very promising player but unfortunately he just wasn't quite quick enough for midfield or full-back in the top flight.
