David
Blackburn Rovers striker Nick Blackman is eager to agree a new loan deal at Motherwell. The 21-year-old joined Well on a short-term deal until January and has made an immediate impact, scoring eight goals in 12 league games. Manager Craig Brown has made it clear he wants to keep Blackman longer and, after Wednesday's hat-trick against St Johnstone, the youngster confirmed he would relish the opportunity to stay in Scotland until the end of the season. "Coming to Motherwell has been a brilliant move because, at my age, I need first-team football," he told the Daily Record. "I am keen to extend things although that's a matter for the two clubs. I'm in the last year of my Blackburn contract but I've not spoken to Sam Allardyce or heard anything." Wednesday's hat-trick sealed back-to-back wins for Well and saw them consolidate third in the Scottish Premier League behind Rangers and Celtic. Fellow youngsters Chris Humphrey and Jamie Murphy have also shone in Brown's fledgling side and Blackman believes they can continue to close the gap on the big two. "We can keep progressing," said the ex-Macclesfield trainee. "We want to win every game we can. "We know we are capable of winning, we've gone 1-0 up at Ibrox but in the second half we didn't do what we should have. But then Rangers have been beaten 3-0 while Celtic have lost too. "So we can get closer to them if we keep beating the teams around them. And if we also do well against the big two then you never know. There's a lot more to come from us." Source: Sky Sports.com Brilliant news that he wants to extend his current deal beyond January, up to the end of the season. It'll be a wrench seeing him leave at the end of the season, although his deal is up with Blackburn then, so maybe he'll fancy a move to Fir Park for another season? LadywellToi
Great news, however premiership reserve team wages still trounce anything we'd offer, and if he keeps on the way he's going he'll be near the 30 goal mark for the season which will always attract plenty of interest. Blackburn would be foolish to at least not get something for him in the New year.
Richie
Even if we could afford the wages blackburn would be due a development fee would they not?
'Wellfan 2k7
Hopefully he does extend his current deal because not only is this a great level for players of his standard to thrive and develop, but it gives us a chance to get another stint in Europe. welladad
CB on the bbc after match interview at St Mirren says its looking promising for him staying with us after January. Think I might text big Sam and congratulate him on his superb management skills in allowing us to prepare Nick for bigger things in the premiership next season. daver
Unfortunately, unless Blackburn are about to sign him on an extended deal, I can't think of any reason why it would be in their interest to extend the loan deal and I have to assume he will be on his way. Mortonhallwell
Unless Blackburn wish to keep him in the shop window. Look what happened to Lucas last season - spent the entire season on loan to us where he had the chance to shine and then gets a £1m transfer to Coventry. TAM
Unless Blackburn wish to keep him in the shop window. Look what happened to Lucas last season - spent the entire season on loan to us where he had the chance to shine and then gets a £1m transfer to Coventry. I don't think the shop window would extend beyond Xmas. I think Blackman is out of contract in the summer and so I could see Blackburn using his current form to get some cash from a Championship club in January if they don't plan to sign him to an extended deal. Could be wrong!
Jonesy
The major difference there between the 2 though, is that Everton spent £1 million signing Lukas from Swindon so were always going to be looking to recoup that. Blackburn got Blackman from Macclesfield for a nominal fee, as far as I'm aware, so they'll feel less pressured to cash in on him with his contract running down. WellMartyn
If Blackman stays with us until the end of the season, he'd only leave Rovers on a free if its to a Scottish team (Bosman/Cross-Border Rule.) So if we get him til the end of the season then he goes back down there and gets a move to the Championship and Blackburn get a decent compensation package. I'm sure thats how it works! 'Wellfan 2k7
Perhaps, and this is just a minor suggestion to what may happen. Blackburn will re-sign him in their books and then offer him back on loan, leaving us without him for one maybe two weeks while the paper work is sorted out. A wee stint up here with us to kick start the career.
