CoF
Pssst, it was a joke on the usual manager-speak guff - hence my comment about 'sick as a parrot'. Oops, sorry. That flew completely over my head. No pun intended.
DEWELL
The topic of this post is MM saying 3rd place is beyond us. As much as it pains me im afraid he's right and top 6 is a more realistic prospect. Hopefully with a good cup run as well.
Rickoza
Fourth is just as good for Europe this season I'm sure. THink it would mean an earlier round, but certain the top four will make it.
kmmfc
Don't think 4th will be enough unless UEFA change their minds regarding cup runners up. We'll just have to win the Scottish Cup methinks.
SuperCC
4th place is certain of a spot in the Qualifying rounds of the new Europa Cup (or whatever its called) as UEFA has abandonded the Intertoto cup and our co-efficient in the rankings was high enough to see us get another spot. We also still have the 5th spot available through the scottish cup so there will definetly be 5 scottish teams in Europe next year. Have still not read anywhere about whether or not UEFA still oppose the runners up in the cup not being given the UEFA spot and the team 5th placed in the league going instead. So it is still open that if one of the top four placed teams win the cup (and we don't ) then a back door for fifth place could be up for grabs. Anyone know for certain about the runners up not getting in Europe still being opposed by UEFA. We need to know this now as IMO its still all to play for. Wellfan1984
UEFA are all for the Non-Cup Winners not getting into the cup. Have been since some team from the Portugese Second Division got there. Although if I remember rightly they have done better than most league placed teams have from Scotland. SuperCC
Wellfan1984 - totally agree but it was less than 12 months ago they opposed the change in Scotland and see below for the sort of statement thats still appearing in most places. "The winners of the Scottish Cup also qualify for the UEFA Europa League. If the winner of the Scottish Cup has already qualified for Europe via their league position, the UEFA Europa League place is allocated to the runner-up. If both Scottish Cup final representitives have qualified for Europe via their league position, the final UEFA Europa League place is given the SPL's fifth placed club" This seems bang upto date as it talks about the Europa League! Wellfan1984
Actually it is more like 5th place COULD be fucked if the Old Firm win the Scottish Cup • The losing finalist for the domestic cup competition will still be entitled to be entered for the UEFA Europa League should the domestic cup winners qualify for the UEFA Champions League. - UEFA.com Guessing that means it is likely to be up to the SFA
Stu92
No, I think all that's saying is that should the winners already have qualified for Europe (ie Champions League) then the loser will take their place in the Europa Cup. I think 4th is a very good target for us this season. A win today would put us level with Hibs in 6th on the basis that Celtic beat them. With Aberdeen and Hibs still to be played twice and Dundee United and Hearts once (I think) then we're in a very good position to claw back points over these teams and climb the table. SuperCC
Don't forget we need to see wins today for Rangers, Celtic, Caley, St Midden and us of course.......
