Motherwell V Rangers

Arrived in the East Stand at 2.15 yesterday. Within 5 minutes of watching the warm-up, you could see that the players were not in the right frame of mind for such a big game. Absolutely no focus or intensity to the warm-up.

With regards the starting line-up, it is clear to see why Young is not cut out to be a manager. No Fitzpatrick or Sutton? FFS, if you are going to compete with Rangers, you need to be prepared for a battle. And from a tactical perspective, if your creative players are stuck out wide, you need players in the middle that are capable of winning the ball back.

Ended up leaving after 60 minutes, frustrated with the lack of fight from Motherwell, frozen to the bone and bursting for a pish.

We better see a reponse at Parkhead on Wednesday.

Good post.

I don't blame Gordon Young though. He's doing his best and has answered the call of duty. He's not cut out for manager; knows his limitations and has said that - all credit to him. He's a damned good youth coach. I just wish more people in life, both inside and outside football, would take the same attitude. To know yourself well is a great position to be in. You can't ask any more of someone.

Craigan and Reynolds?? I give up - said it many times - I'm with Gannon and even Ice-Rink - time for Craggs to get behind the mic and Hutch to get the central defensive berth.

We shipped 6 goals the last time Hutch played against Rangers.

You'd think that Shaun Hutchinson was fucking Franco Baresi the way people go on.

Pretty much agree with most of the Threads.....none had decent games.... Lasley was average with little end product, but to be fare he was made to look alot better than he was. The Defence was below par (yet again) i have mentioned in past threads that Craggs needs a break, but in his defence the rest were not much better.

No creativity in midfield.

No fight.

No Pride.

No Support. (Players that is)

@ least three mistakes causing three goals.... no make that four mistakes causing four goals.

Its not Youngs fault, the blame lies solely with the players, on the day they came up against a better team that actually took pride in there performance in front of the cameras.

How do we improve... introduce Fitzy for the Celtic match. And i would even have Page playing if both or either play they will give you 100 % and that can only be better than the limp wristed 15% given by the first eleven yesterday.

Murphy- has the ability and showed once or twice what he could do, but the effort being shown from across the park then wore off on him and faded out of the game.

Lasley- lots of huff and puff with nothing at the end of it but for effort 100 %.

Humphrey - Had a quite one again today, they doubled up on him and pretty much closed all the space down the flanks, with Lasley in midfield as the only play maker it showed, as his passing lacks accuracy and without that you have no space to run into.

Defence as a whole- overall the defence lacked composure and if i am honest it looked like Rangers would score every single attack, we needed to get the boot in early on and not give them the Red carpet treatment, which they happily trotted down on a regular basis.

Blackman- Didnt show up for the game today, maybe he knew it would be his last game at Fir Park, couple of touches that were sussed out early... then lost his confidence and like Murphy and Humphrey drifted out of the match.

The players mentioned are the players that win us or lose us the match... not at the races today. role on Celtic match and lets hope they perform better for the fans next time out.

Yesterday it was as limp and lifeless a Motherwell display as we've seen, especially in a game involving one of the bigots. The team showed too much respect to them ans sat off far too much. We barely made a tackle worthy of the name and were were frankly bullied at times.

The only time we got in their faces and showed what we were about was when we scored and immediately after it. If we'd gone with that attitude from minute one we'd have at least provided a contest to them. As it was we let them run through us and made Weiss look like Lionel Messi.

Perhaps the bug that affected Hateley and others had a bigger impact than first thought, but we require to get the fingers out and roll up the sleeves ahead of Wednesday, cos no matter how pish they've been they'll pump us if we put up that level of performance again.

Definitely the worst I can remember us playing against Rangers at Fir Park in a long time. Although he contributed with the goal, I don't think Sutton was by any means the right player to bring on for Hateley. Forbes would have been my choice, you can't rule him out based on a year of playing horribly out of position. Leitch was left footed but we would never have seen him played out wide. Even Fitzpatrick, Gow barely has the physique to play upfront let alone centre midfield.

As Busta mentioned, we do need a left midfielder. Murphy is a great player in his preferred position, upfront, but he is not in a month of Sundays a left midfielder. Definitely leaves our team unbalanced, especially against decent opposition. I'd maybe even play Fitzpatrick there for now, is his contract the start or the end of the month?

If we had kept it tight for ten minutes after we'd scored, you never know what could have happened. The last half hour was inept and devoid of effort, drive and any standard of football. We need a manager in and pronto.

It was somewhat amusing listening to the visiting "fans" and some of their "songs". Was a good 8 minutes into the game before they seemed to remember which team they were there to see when a "song" including the word Rangers was belted out. Of course, it was twisted to include their favourite topic of being completely and utterly bigoted. The fervour with which it was chanted, and the looks on the faces of those singing with all their might, really is a sad, sad sight to see. Especially those of a more mature age. Such bitterness is such a disgusting sight.
